Since being Natural, I have tried many different shampoos, some that I loved straight away, other I hated straight away & a few that I loved initially and then was a nightmare for my hair. I think all of us naturalistas have had shampoos that stayed in the bathroom for the longest time and we only used when we ran out of the good shampoos.
A year ago you’d ask me if the brand or type of shampoo matters & I’d tell you it does not! You could use the cheapest shampoo as long as you follow it up with a good conditioner and/or deep conditioner and you are good to go, your hair is going to replenish all the nutrients and nourish the hair. Ohh How I was wrong ..
To be honest with you, there was not 1 type of shampoo I had tried that my hair “loved”, everything just did the job of cleaning my hair & would make hair tangled, rough and extremely dry. There were shampoos I hated and I would not use again but as far as my go-to shampoo? It was none existent. How many of my Queens can agree with me?
As far as I was concerned all these shampoo that claimed to moisturise and hydrate and make it easier to detangle were all lies. This is why I turned to Pre-poo, it was the only thing that helped my hair still be alive after shampooing.
These shampoos have changed my outlook on shampoos and changed my wash day routine and made it much easier. Here are my favourite shampoos which all of them are Sulfate free & are not in any particular order:
1. Shea Moisture – Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil
Hands down my favourite shampoo. It cates to dry, damaged hair. It is a thicker shampoo which replenishes and rejuvenates from root to tip. Detangling will not be an issue with this shampoo. This is my go-to shampoo if I do not want to Pre-poo. It is the only shampoo that will not tuck, pull on my knots.
This shampoo can be a little more pricier than other shampoos mentioned but if you find it on any promotion, don’t think about it. Grab it and watch your hair thank you.
- I recommend this for colder months or if your hair is in desperate need of moisture and life. You can purchase it here
2. Creme of Nature Clay & Charcoal
It was not until last year when I tried the Creme of Nature Charcoal Shampoo, that i had realised the are shampoos that cleanse but also make hair much more manageable & soft. This shampoo was a big changer for my hair. It did everything it said it would do .
It gently cleanses the hair and control frizz. This is the Bomb specially for the price. If you are on a budget, just get this shampoo. – You can purchase on amazon here
3. Shea Moisture – Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Jamaican Black Castor Oil reduces scalp irritation by fighting inflammation with its fatty acid properties. Promotes overall healthy hair by thickening the hair follicles and promote hair growth.
Peppermint oil increases circulation on the scalp which promotes hair growth. & Apple Cider Vinegar cleanses and helps regulate and balance the scalps pH levels.
I can’t tell you how much my hair loves this product. I keep this one in my room to ensure nobody else is finishing it up hehehe. – I mean who wouldn’t? – You can purchase it here
4. Imbue – Curl Liberating Sulphate Free Shampoo
I love this shampoo. It says it will unleash coils from the daily grime without leaving them parched and it did just that. My hair was manageable after using this shampoo and it was moisturised. The shampoo has Coconut Oil which promotes healthy scalp & minimises split ends which helps length retention. It also includes Cupuaçu Butter which is extremely moisturising which improves hair elasticity.
” It’s not about controlling kinks, curls and coils; it’s about liberating them” – and boy my hair was definitely liberated, my kinks loves this vegan + cruelty free. You can purchase it here
5. Creme of Nature Aloe Vera & Black Castor Oil Shampoo
You know I love Aloe Vera and I swear by it. My hair changed when I started incorporating regular use of Aloe Vera. Hence why I had to try this collection. I love this shampoo, a little goes a long way and for someone like me that shampoos twice, it’s very cost effective.
This shampoo promises to cleanse, detangle and restore moisture. Aloe Vera retains moisture and make it easier to detangle and the Black Castor Oil has strengthening properties which will fortify the hair and promote growth and length retention.
It is important to change your hair routine every 2-3 months, change up the products so they still work and your hair is not used to it. I alternate between these shampoos depending on what my hair needs.
If you are using a shampoo that makes your hair rough, extremely tangled and hard to manage then your search for the perfect shampoo still stands.
