Chebe Powder, The Long Kinky Hair Secret from Africa

Hola Queens ( oh how i missed saying that ),

I have been trying different things with my hair in the month of July. I think there is so many methods and different treatments from different parts of the world. Have you heard of Chebe Powder before?

Have you been curious about trying Chebe? Want to try it on but you don’t know where to start?

What is Chebe?

Chebe is mix of herbs created by Chadian Women. The mixture is made of Lavender Groton ( which is grown everywhere in africa), Cloves, Reisin Tree, Cherry seeds, Prunus Mahaleb – which these are known to aid to hair growth, thickness and moisture retention. Chebe lengthens the hair making the hair look longer and fuller.

Chadian have been able to grow their hair below their bum and they claim is the chebe powder and their application that keep them locks growing. When I was doing my research on Chebe, the results kept me shoooook, and all I could think about was ” I need to start this ASAP”.

Chebe is not applied to the scalp but rather the hair since it is a potent mix of herbs and it might irritate the scalp, it is applied on the hair itself to nourish the locks. Chebe works better when tucked away in a low manipulation style aka braids/twists. I prefer braid as it keeps everything in and its neater.

Benefits

Length Retention
Balances the Ph of hair shaft
Moisture Retention
Contains Anti Inflamatory Properties
Reduce Shedding

Hair growth

Chadian woman have long, black and thick hair using this method, but if Chebe is not supposed to be applied on the scalp, how can it promote hair growth?

Our hair is always growing, and what most of us struggle with is length retention. Applying the chebe to the hair and tucking it on braids, it keeps the hair protected even if the hair is in contact with cotton or other harsh fabrics. Which puts less stress on the ends of our hair, which will keep them moisturised and healthy. The ends of our hair need to be taken care of on a daily basis.

Chebe powder is used by thousands of people worldwide who attest to helping their hair retain lengths and get thicker.

Traditional Application

Only 2 products needed : Chebe Mix, Oil/Grease & Water. Traditionally use Karkar oil.

  • Separate the hair into medium sections.
  • Get the hair wet with water – ensuring the hair is not soaking wet but wet enough for the cuticles to be open. Detangle that section.
  • Alternating between the chebe and the oil/grease until the hair is fully saturated and braid the section of hair.
  • Repeat in all sections.
  • Apply the water in the hair to lock it off
  • Repeat set 3 every 3-5 days until the hair is due for a wash.

Modern/Easier Application

There are a few application that makes it easy for modern day application of chebe powder. Most of us live in a city and have jobs, and Chebe can make your hair look like its dirty.

I recommend these applications if you have never tried Chebe Powder before, since it’s an introductory level and all natural recipes and it will not be overwhelming for you.

Chebe Paste
  • In a bowl mix chebe powder, deep conditioner, preferred oil and preferred grease.
  • Spray hair with water and detangle
  • Apply to the hair and braid
Chebe overnight mask

There are many different combinations you can do for a chebe mask. Whatever you have at home, what ever your hair needs at the time you can use Banana, Avocado, Honey, Oils, Aloe Vera Gel, Egg, and Chebe Powder. Use all or use selected ingredients and blend it. Your hair will feel stronger and softer – extremely soft

Chebe butter

Chebe butters have become a much easier and neater way to apply Chebe, benefit from the properties but still have your hair look nice whilst having it on.

Ultimate Prepoo Recipe

Hola Queens,

I don’t know about you, but I need to plan my wash day from beginning to end at least a day before my wash day otherwise I feel conflicted and end up doing everything last minute and end up forgetting something. Due to the Self-Care July challenge (if you do not know what i am talking about and want to take part click here) I have been thinking what could I add to my Pre-poo that would better? Oil ! A great prepoo seems to always involve oil, it seems to be every naturalista’s answer when they face the question of their favourite prepoo.

As i mentioned on my last post, Aloe Vera + Fenugreek Seeds is my favourite prepoo & it never fails me for a moisture, strength, shine pick up.

The video is for demonstration purpose only. It’s how I do my usual Prepoo.

Hot Oil Treatment is amazing, and every hair needs it here and there. Curly and Coily hair is naturally dry AF & we need anything that will give our tresses long last moisture, isn’t it? Plus everyone has at least one type of oil at home which makes this super practical.

Benefits:

  • Strengths Hair
  • Adds Shine & luster
  • Reduces Breakage/ Damage
  • Less Split Ends
  • Promotes Growth
  • Reduces Dryness

What you need

  • Aloe Vera Leaf
  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Water
  • Spray Bottle
  • Oil of choice – I used a mix of JBCO & Olive Oil
  • Aloe Vera Juice (optional)

You can use one oil or a mixture of your favourite oils.

Preparation

  1. Mix the fenugreek seeds, aloe vera juice & water in a spray bottle
  2. Leave the mixture to infuse for minimum 2 hours. I recommend leaving it for 6 hours.
  3. The fenugreek seeds will have sprouted.
  4. Warm up your oil/oils with warm water underneath.
  5. Cut the small spines out and cut the Aloe Vera in half and into smaller pieces (as shown in the picture above)
  6. Section your hair between 4-8 parts. I recommend 6 parts+ as it ensures every strand is coated.
  7. Apply the spray from roots to ends & detangle
  8. Apply the Aloe Vera from roots to ends concentrating in the roots and ends ( these need extra love)
  9. Apply the Oil from roots to ends concentrating on your ends
  10. Twist the section & proceed to the next
  11. Apply the Aloe Vera all over the scalp once you finished twisting all sections
  12. Apply plastic cap & allow the mixture to sit on your hair for minimum 30 minutes.

I left the prepoo for about 2 hours and I took it out, my hair feels and looks amazing. This will definitely be a prepoo for when I am feeling a little fancy because it does take longer to make and its an extra step but its worth it. Hair is feeling very hydrated & moisturised ain’t even it sis. My hair above that.

The curls were popping.

Next time I do this prepoo I will make sure to take some pictures and include it. I have none of that day only videos during. But you can see the level of moisture my hair has. I’m in love,

Thank you for reading this post.
